Liner Notes
waiting rooms
someone told me a long time ago
don't go over there and look at that
or even listen to it
from over here . . . it will only confuse you
and it was then I realized
how badly I needed to be confused
because I found myself confused
wondering why I shouldn't be confused
it's something in the ORIGINAL DEFINITION
. . . and then years later you try to live up
to it and it doesn't work
and then you get put down by the moment's
interpretation of the definition
and get labeled as ANTI-DEFINITION
because maybe the moment's interpretation
of the definition just ain't too close
to the ORIGINAL DEFINITION
and living up to the ORIGINAL DEFINITION
would be instant destruction
THANK YOU for not getting out of your chair
or holding the door for me when I entered
and
THANK YOU for telling me to get it myself
you have made me feel at home
people who live in grass houses
shouldn't throw lawnmowers
so you say you think
that I think
that you're smoothing me up
to ask me for something
so I say "yes . . .
I think you are"
so you say . . . "well really I/m not"
so I say
"I didn't think you were until you said
you though I thought that you were
so then I thought you might be
so
I said: 'yes I believe that you are' "
that is
just to be on the safe side
a small boy thinks to himself:
mommy's in daddy's car
daddy's in mommy's car
and I'm in mommy's car
with daddy
"coffee?" she said
as she pulled the door behind us . . .
"tea" . . . I said
as I sat down . . .
"with lemon in it"
and I heard the taxi disappeaing
leaving us there
to be a bad influence on each other
KENTUCKY FRIED CHICKEN (a poem
written by John Hartford

col sanders . . . suh

any ole time
of all the thousend and one places
there are
here, there and everywhere,
up, down, around, inside out,
outside in, and

WHY
do you insist on eating you strawberries
RIGHT ON TOP OF MY
BANJO CASE!!!
sometimes about all you can do
is just start in at the very beginning
and go on
though
and then just keep on
till you get to the end
and
then
just
stop
one last word of caution:
everything on both sides
of this album cover has
been printed upside down
with the exception of the
last word of this
