John Hartford - RCA Country Legends

John Hartford is a legend in country, folk, and bluegrass circles. His classic composition "Gentle On My Mind" became an American standard through Glen Campbell's hit version, and has also been recorded by Elvis Presley, Aretha Franklin, Frank Sinatra, Hank Snow, Tammy Wynette, Waylon Jennings, Earl Scruggs, Dean Martin, and Patti Page. As a Nashville studio musician, Hartford was part of the early "country rock" scene and he also made a guest spot on the Byrds' notorious turn towards country music, Sweetheart of the Rodeo. More recently Hartford was among the contributors to the musical tapestry that backed last year's film, O Brother, Where Art Thou. He died on June 4th in Nashville after a decade-long battle with cancer; he was sixty-three. John Hartford made his first impact during his years with RCA (1966-1970) and this classic material has never been reissued until now.
