The City of Baton Rouge and the Julia Belle Swain

The Julia Belle Swain (right) is shown tied up to the City Of Baton Rouge.
The Julia Bell Swain is a sternwheel steel hull excursion boat built in Dubuque, Iowa by Dubuque Boat & Boiler Company in 1971. She measures 108 x 22. Her engines are 12's-5 ft. from the ferry City Of Baton Rouge. One water tube boiler. This delightful excursion boat was planned and built by Capt. Dennis Trone and was christened by Julia Belle Swain Shelton for whom the original boat of the name, built in 1913, was called.
The boat had operated on the Illinois River out of Peoria with one day excursions and two day trips to Starved Rock State Park.
She has recently been sold by Dennis Trone to The Great River Steamboat Company. John had the pleasure of taking a trip on her this last summer.
The grace and charm of the boat has made her familiar to TV viewers as she appears in movies and commercials. She worked out of Chattanooga for several summer seasons.
