I posted this to www.KPIG.com Squeals Page 6/5 when I learned of John's passing-it just kinda poured out of me. My best to the family.
"Well John, you might not know it, but we spoke a lot about you a couple of weeks ago when news first broke about your illness. Lots of good things were said about you by a lot of good people you had influenced over the course of your musical journey. Seems the hat and yer dancin stand out, but a lot of people spoke of times they met ya, talked with ya around late night campfires, etc. You certainly had a big impact on me from the very first time I heard you backing Glen on some variety show in the 60's. I was just a kid then, didn't even like string music. But over the years I've come to love what it takes to play, write and sing in the 'natural' style you were so good at.
So, I guess what I'm sayin is this; it hurts to lose you and we're all gonna miss you something terrible. But we will always remember you and your music and your person. When it gets too hard to think about, we'll just pop in some vinyl, a cd, maybe a bootleg tape, etc. and think good thoughts and remember what you gave us.
And by the way, when it's my turn to go, I hope you'll look me up and honor me with an opportunity to pick one with ya-that sure would be grand. Thanks, man. Peace to you and yours from me and mine. May Majestic Modal strums follow you forever. lp
