When my dad was in college in St. Louis, he played with John Hartford in a quartet. They would go to state fairs and get second place - Hartford would take first place with his solo show. In 1995, I had the distinct honor of re-introducing the two gentlemen at the Sheldon Concert Hall. Hartford remembered my dad and pulled him up on the stage after the show for a private "howdy."
I suppose John Hartford was always a member of our family, considering the impact of his music on our lives. We'll miss him a bunch!
