A Brief Moment

I had the excitement of seeing John perform for the first time in my life only a few months ago with Retrograss here in Chicago. After the concert ended, John greeted a few fans, one by one, in a quiet corner outside the concert hall, waiting for the crowd to clear the lobby so he could leave without being jostled (He was obviously very weak that evening.). I was seated on a bench in the lobby, waiting for a friend, as John stood up to leave. Although he was several strides away from me, he unexpectedly looked my way, flashed me a grin, and the cutest wink I ever saw. I was so dumbstruck, all I could manage was a weak smile in return. I was, and am, so humbled by his desire to silently connect with me, a stranger, for that brief moment, in a sharing of the excitement of the evening's music. I shall never forget it.
