To the family, friends, and bands of John Hartford,
John touched so much of my family.
In 2000 we traveled to Fur Peace for the warmest, most enjoyable show that I have ever experienced. I awoke the next morning, smiling , with a warm glow, thinking of the previous evening. This year was bittersweet. John has been in my prayers since that show.
Yesterday the local public radio station announced what I had hoped my prayers would have kept from being. The DJ asked for requests. I called for "Tear Down the Grand Ole Opry." When she played the tribute it was "Gentle On My Mind," my request, and "Keep On Truckin'" I thought it was perfect. But I had to gather myself up before I could make my next sales call.
I wonder if I will ever be able to listen to his music again without getting as emotional as I am writing this.
It goes without saying that he was loved and will be missed and I tried to convey my appreciation to him during the brief moments at shows without sounding like a patronizing fan. I don't know how to end this but my thoughts are with people I don't know who where close to him. Another good thing has done gone on.
